The Relationship Between Laboratory Findings and Mortality in COVID-19 Patients Requiring Intensive Care

Introduction: Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) shows a wide clinical manifestation from asymptomatic infection to life-threatening failure. This study aimed determine the relationship between survival and demographic data, comorbidity status, laboratory parameters of disease 2019 (COVID-19) patients requiring intensive care. Material methods: We retrospectively analyzed 236 care whose diagnosis was confirmed by SARS-CoV-2 reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test. The were divided into two groups in terms survival. Demographic data; procalcitonin C-reactive protein (CRP) levels; leukocyte, lymphocyte, neutrophil counts hemogram neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) lower blood cultures examined, relationships these evaluated with hypothesis testing. Results: In study, 156 (66.1%) males 80 (33.9%) females, total patients, included. Sixty-seven (28.3%) surviving determined as Group 1, 169 (71.7%) deceased 2. A statistically significant difference found mean age (p<0.001) gender distribution (p=0.011). parameters, observed lymphocyte count (p=0.001), NLR (p<0.001), levels (p<0.001). Although leukocyte (p=0.075), (p=0.031), CRP (p=0.112) higher 2, there no statistical difference. Mortality be (p=0.012) or co-infection (p=0.002). Conclusion: High count, NLR, procalcitonin; low count; presence comorbidity; secondary bacterial associated mortality COVID-19 unit.
